11/27/2024, Wednesday - Explored St. Simons Island, GA

We called Cara's uncle and aunt, Rick and Ann, because they are just a couple hours north of St. Augustine in St. Simons Island, Georgia. They were happy to hear from us and invited us up for Thanksgiving, so we made plans to arrive on Wednesday before dark.

We arrived midday and had lunch at a cafe in "The Village" area of St. Simons Island. All around the island are Golden Isles "tree spirits" - the mermaid pictured here is Cora.

We did as the lady at the Golden Isles Visitors Center recommended, and we drove to Fernandina Park to pick up the bike trail on the island.

The trail basically follows alongside the road, but it's still cool because of the mossy trees.

We reached the end of the trail at the north end of the island, then turned and headed back south.

According to the sign, we were on the Hampton Spur of the island-wide trail system of St. Simons Island.

We stopped at Fort Frederica National Monument, but we didn't really have enough time to walk around, and we realized we'd taken a wrong turn, so we headed back. We saw it in 2017, but maybe we'll see it again before leaving.

After our bike ride we went to Uncle Rick and Aunt Ann's house, then went out for a lovely dinner at Tramici's, an Italian restaurant, and it was nice enough that we sat outside. Yay for outdoor dining weather!
