6/25/2024, Tuesday - Evangola State Park in New York

Updated: Jul 9

This was the start of a trip our friends, Mark and Annette, had planned to celebrate their wedding anniversary, and we were happy to be along for the ride. We had driven all day the previous day to reach Evangola State Park in Upstate New York, so this morning we started off with a hike to explore the park.

Evangola State Park has cute yurts for rent.

There is a nice big beach on Lake Erie at the park.

It was cool to walk the beach to the end.

Next we headed to Liberty Vineyards & Winery for a wine tasting.

There are loads of wineries in the area because the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York is ideal for growing certain types of grapes.

We enjoyed a nice selection of wines, some yummy nuts, and nicely paired chocolate truffles from an Indiana chocolate company.

Next we drove to the town of Dunkirk (on the Erie coast) and walked around. We looked into Steelbound (a brewery there), but their kitchen wasn't open.

We walked on and ended up eating at Spike Dailey's, a little Irish pub run by a woman from Ireland.

Then we drove to hike a trail in Larkin Woods (Franklin Gulf County Park) near North Collins, NY.

We saw some cool looking fungi on our hike. This one was about the size of Cara's hand.

Cara remembered to put her hand in the picture at least for some scale on this one.
