7/20/2024, Saturday - Biked to Niagara Falls again

joraintree

We enjoyed cycling to Niagara Falls so much we decided to do it again! This time we decided to take the more direct route (by 4 miles) via Grand Island. This meant going over those big blue bridges we saw on our way to Niagara Falls the first time.

I believe these large metal structures that partially impeded our path are called hangers. They made it difficult to cross the bridge on a bicycle. I folded in my mirror because it kept hitting the railing, and Eric walked his bike.

The view from the bridge of boaters on the Niagara River.

Eric noticed these worrisome holes in the bridge girders - yikes! (Afterwards our friend told us of how many boats have crashed into the bridges this year, and then we saw reports about all the fixes these bridges need.)

It was not the most fun going over the south bridge, but we made it!

OK, cool, we get a nice separated bike path to ride on.

Well, thanks Grand Island, we feel welcomed.

Well, the separate bike path was short-lived. It was road shoulder pretty much the rest of the way, and not the prettiest scenery.

We got one little pretty stretch just before crossing off the island on the north bridge.

The north bridge was much less stressful to cross.

Love the solar powered lights in this park along the river.

At the south end of Niagara Falls State Park.

A lovely rest stop.

Crossing the American Rapids Bridge from Goat Island back to the State Park.

We checked out downtown Niagara Falls, New York.

Part of Old Falls Rd was closed off for some sort of Christmas themed event.

There was a neat water feature that people were using to cool off on a hot day.

After grabbing a bite to eat, we enjoyed the ride home in cooler temperatures. We decided to take the longer route back and avoid the Grand Island Bridges at night. Now, here is a video showing our route...
