8/10/2024, Saturday - Biked to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side

We planned to bicycle to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side with friends who spoke of how pretty the ride is there. Unfortunately, our friends couldn't make it, but we decided to go on our own anyway because it was a beautiful day.

Accessing the Peace Bridge

Crossing the Peace Bridge

We reached Canada and passed through customs with no issues.

You basically follow The Niagara River Recreation Trail all the way to Niagara Falls.

We passed some sort of street fair in Bridgeburg, but we didn't stop.

The trail is a combination of dedicated trail and shared use of the "service roads" that residents use to access their homes along the busy road.

It is definitely a scenic trail.

We passed a memorial park about the Battle of Chippawa. We had never heard of this battle before.

The trail took us over the water in a few places.

We passed the water intake area for the Canadian power plant.

First view of the city and falls.

Approaching downtown and the falls

We were rewarded with incredible views of all the falls, and often rainbows!

The main drag in Niagara Falls, Ontario looks like a tourist nightmare to us, so we avoided it.

The viewing areas here are just a sea of people. The Canadian side is much busier than the US side.

We did find a spot to lock up and charge our bikes here, though.

We decided to cross the street and check out the park on the other side.

Lo and behold, it's another memorial to Nikola Tesla!

Nikola Tesla is revered in these parts because he was instrumental in harnessing Niagara Falls for power.

We took our lunch break next to the Tesla statue and had a lovely view of the falls.

Back to the falls again - you can see how close the boats get to the base of the falls.

Zooming in on visitors to Cave of the Winds at the base of Bridle Veil Falls on the US side.

We stayed long enough to see the falls illuminated at night.

Looking back at Niagara Falls on our ride home it looked like part of the city was on fire where the falls and mist were illuminated red.

Woohoo - made it back to Buffalo without incident! We can definitely see ourselves doing this again.

Finally, here is the Relive video of our ride this day:
