8/29-8/30/2024, Thursday-Friday - Biked the Trails in Newmarket, Ontario

On Thursday, after getting some work done at our friends' place in Binbrook we drove to downtown Newmarket, Ontario because it looked like it had a nice walking district and some great bike trails.

In wandering around we found this neat water feature that appears to be a splash park in the summer and an ice rink in the winter - pretty cool!

It appeared that a band was setting up for live music later.

Then we saw this sign and knew we would be back because we're all about free events and live music.

We got on our bicycles to check out the Tom Taylor and NokiidaaTrails.

As we rode around we were impressed by the bridges and boardwalks that had been constructed for this dedicated walking/cycling trail.

This was an interesting historical radial arch that is being restored.

We made the most of the day and returned in time to catch some of the live music in this super cool setting.

Here is the Relive video we made for this day:

On Friday morning we had coffee and collected ourselves at the water feature that had been the previous night's concert venue.

Then we headed out on our bikes to check out other sections of the Tom Taylor Trail.

We felt blessed to have another beautiful sunny day for cycling.

The setting was lovely as well.

We just love these dedicated trails that are safely separated from the roads.

The kilometer trail markers were beautiful and inspirational.

Each one was different and had a special meaning.

Our shady break spot in a park.

After a nice ride we headed back into town for a late lunch.

We got take-out at a cute little place on the main street in town. Cara had vegetarian sushi, and Eric got a nice bento box meal.

We sat in the shade at this park and enjoyed our meals.

There was a neat "living room" seating area as well as a huge "little free library" with covered seating in this park.

After our bike ride we packed up and drove north to Cannington to visit Jesse, a friend we had met in Belize. We walked into town, narrowly avoiding a hard rain, and had dinner at Pub 12, which was super slow because apparently almost everyone in town had gone to cottages for the long weekend. We stayed up late that night and had a great time talking and catching up with Jesse.
